Fractional CTO · AI Advisory

Practical AI transformation for companies that cannot afford to get it wrong

I help mid-market and enterprise organisations adopt AI with the rigour of 35 years in enterprise IT and the perspective of someone actively using AI to build and operate a production SaaS platform.

Three ways I work with clients

I work with mid-market and enterprise organisations. Each engagement is shaped around what your company actually needs, not a fixed methodology. My delivery practice is built on Anthropic's Claude, which I recommend as a starting point because it is currently the most capable engineering stack for production AI work.

Fractional CTO

Many companies reach a point where technical decisions carry real strategic weight, but the workload does not justify a full-time CTO. I step in as a senior technology partner, typically one to two days a week, working with your leadership on architecture, hiring, vendor selection, and technical direction.

AI Readiness Assessment

Before committing budget to AI, it pays to understand what you are working with. I review your data landscape, existing systems, team skills, and risk tolerance, then deliver a clear report on where AI can genuinely help and where it cannot.

AI Implementation Support

Strategy without execution is just a slide deck. I build with Claude Code daily on BeWell Catalyst, and I work alongside your engineering teams to select the right AI tools, build working integrations, deploy Claude Code and MCP workflows, and get AI operating inside your actual business processes.

I have not just advised on this. I have built it.

The hardest thing to find in a fractional CTO is someone who has genuinely built and shipped production software, not just advised on it from the sidelines.

I designed, built, and operate a SaaS platform used by healthcare professionals at the UCSF Center for Mindfulness in Surgery. Every architecture decision, every deployment, every line of code. This is not a story about working alone. It is proof that modern AI, in experienced hands, enables what previously required a team of engineers. When I advise your team on AI, I have recently been in every seat they are sitting in.

Background

My career has spanned France, the United States, and the United Kingdom. I started in computer science research in France, spent a year as a visiting scholar at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, and then over two decades in enterprise architecture roles at Shell and BP in the UK. At Shell, I was the architect for Fleet Solutions, a $1 billion B2B business operating across more than 40 countries. I know what it takes to get technology initiatives moving inside large, complex organisations, and I know the common ways they fail.

Since 2018, I have designed, built, and operated a SaaS platform that now serves over 700 healthcare professionals at the UCSF Center for Mindfulness in Surgery. I run this as a solo operator using AI development tools, not because I want to work alone, but because modern AI makes it possible. That is unusual for an advisor at my level of experience: hands-on, current knowledge of what AI can genuinely do in production, combined with the enterprise perspective from three decades at Shell, BP, and other large organisations.

I also hold an MSc in Mindfulness-Based Approaches from Bangor University (Wales), which informs my work on the Mindful Tech Leader programme and gives me a practical understanding of the human side of technology transformation.
